Rail transport

The port of Rotterdam is the departure point for many intermodal railway companies to inland European destinations.

All container terminals in Rotterdam are connected to the Rail Service Center from where daily shuttle container trains depart to many European cities such as Prague, Milan, Marseille, Munich, Vienna, Moscow, Basel, Nuremberg, Budapest, Bratislava and much more destinations.

Rail transport is fast, efficient and makes an important contribution to limiting global warming and reducing CO2 emissions.

Often containers can be transported by rail on a “one way” basis.

A novelty is that containers can even be transported from China to Rotterdam by rail connection. This offers a considerably shorter transit time than transport by sea.
